Speaking of Hróðvitnir, what this literally means is “fame-wolf”. This switches their roles around and has Hati chasing the sun and Skoll chasing the moon. This is contrasted with Grímnismál 39, where Skoll is listed as the one who “follows the glittering god”, while Hati is mentioned to be the sun of Hróðvitnir and “await the burning bride of heaven”. Grímnismál 21 also mixes things up, listing the sun as þióðvitnis fiskr, “Þióðvitnir’s fish”. Þióðvitnir is normally associated with Fenrisulfr, yet here he’s listed as being the one who chases and catches the sun as prey. Confusion pops up every now and again regarding whether or not Skoll is another name for Fenrir, who is named in Vafþrúðnismál as the wolf who swallows the sun (in stanza 46-47, Fenrir is listed, not Fenrisulfr). Davidson even tries to argue that Skaði and Freyja might be the same Goddess.)
